Karla Lomax was selected through the Georgia Intern Fellowships for Teachers (GIFT) Program for Summer 2022. The lesson she created aligns to Georgia eight grade science standards focusing on energy.

This lesson is tailored for middle school students to delve into the Energy Petal of the Living Building Challenge. Students will engage in hands-on activities, simulations, and exercises to explore the concepts of energy, including renewable and nonrenewable sources. Through collaboration, they will design a miniature Living Building powered by solar energy, showcasing their understanding of sustainable practices. By investigating renewable energy sources, students will connect these sources to the principles of sustainability within the Living Building framework. This exploration will also touch upon physical science topics and energy transformations through online simulations.
